YouTube Branding
Branding for the Video Stars
If you prefer video blogging over writing YouTube is the platform for you. The first step you need to do as a professional is to create a separate channel for your professional work (Paradiso. 2015). Creating that divide between personal and professional is necessary as it can prevent damages to your brand image caused by what you share with your friends.
As a YouTube brand, you are the one empowered by the issues and topics your brand represents, and that freedom to choose the topics is essential (Chen. 2013). Everyone who starts as an amateur YouTube vlogger has to start their brand by digging deep for their core attributes to create the unique promise of their brand.
For example, Tyler Oakley, an LGBTQ+ rights activist started his channel as a freshman at Michigan State University in 2007 and has amassed 7.34 million subscribers. Oakley has built his brand around inclusion and equality for the queer community and is known by many in the community. That is the focus of all YouTube brand professionals, to be heard for their brand ideals.
